A salute to your fun and the concept which I loathe, yet cant really fault.
The Lamentation: ( a cry of sorrow and grief; "their pitiful laments could be heard throughout the ward")
Allthough I cant fault Privateers in what seems to be a successful use of game mechanics, I most certainly think this should not be allowed.
A declaration of war at least from a concept view to fuel Eve Online seems to me like it should be more a bridge to sanction Empire war between two or more entities to cut off supplies ect the works.
It should not be as it is the case with Privateers, a function to grief anything that moves, simply because its "within game mechanics" or original statements such as "because we can" and even if so well then CCP should consider the impact this aptitude for abuse has when were talking cluster-style agendas like this that affects more or less everything in Empire.
Sure there are ways around it, we can all live in 0.0 where Privateers for now isnt seen much or we can remove ourselves from the game functions of alliances and corps and go into "corporate recession" to avoid the Privateer Gank squad. But that would just be to forward the inherrent problem instead of the root cause of the issue.
Then classics like "adapt or become a victim of evolution" and all the train long smack will fall from the skies.
Seleene once posted about the seriousness of creating an alliance and what a big moment it was and how it is theese days, well the same could be said about war declaration. It went from something that was not taken lightly to "what?!? were not at war today?!?, must be a server error!!"
In times before Privateers a war dec meant buisness. Some people had enough/wanted to kill you because of some slight or political problems. Today Wardeccing is an "inconvenient" mechanic to bypass to be allowed to lay waste to as much as possible. "War has been declared" doesnt mean squat today. Chances are youre allready decced by Privateers or soon will be and since 0.0 war dec doesnt mean anything well nothing changes for the average pilot where as in older days war dec meant interruption of normal logistics ect.
It has simply taken the menace out of the whole function.
Maybe it still means something between big alliances vs each other, but thats about the extent of it.
I must admit I hope CCP scales cost drastically above a certain amount of war decs pr entity.
That said since it IS within game mechanics and Privateers seem to thrive on the said lamentations, here is a salute to you and looking forward to thursday, and may you all suffer a horrible end.
